Council approves ethanol company tax break package

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Cherokee County Council on Monday approved a tax incentive package that clears the way for an ethanol distributor to locate here.

The company will locate in a vacant manufacturing facility in Blacksburg and employ six workers.

This good economic news comes on the heels of recent plant closings and a local unemployment rate that is nearing 10 percent.

The company will pay a 7 percent fee-in-lieu to the county, according to the inducement resolution.

The company plans to invest about $15 million.

Giagni has been the only company to locate here this year. Giagni, which makes kitchen and bathroom faucets, moved into an existing building on Huntington Drive.
