Dirty pair content with their level of cleanliness
      Dear Annie: My sister and her husband have some habits that really turn me off when I visit. They leave dirty pots and pans on the stove for weeks. They allow used dishes, cups and utensils to pile up in the sink until it is overflowing. They have a dishwasher, but say it doesn't clean the pots very well.

      Committee members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met recently at the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum to finalize plans for Volume II of their book, I Know What I Know - Stories of the Confederate Years.

Writing, art contest focuses on King's dream
      The annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration will be held Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, in Fullerton Auditorium at Limestone College with Grammyaward winning pianist Daryl Davis as guest speaker and musician. Today marks the beginning of a writing and arts competition offered to all Cherokee County pubic school students.

      The Tuesday Woman's Club met Oct. 14 at the home of Mrs. Richard Baines. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Chuck Lowry and Mrs. Wayne Whiteside. At the start of the meeting, the hostesses served refreshments and members enjoyed a time of fellowship.

      Church news Shady Grove Baptist Church's YWA will sponsor and observe Senior Citizens Day on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. The Rev. L.C. Knuckles, associate minister at Shady Grove, will deliver the message. Other senior citizens or "Mighty Oaks" will be on program, including Rev. Brewton, Rev. Warren Manning, Rev. Richardson and Rev. Ricky Smith.
