WHAT'S UP Church news Shady Grove Baptist Church's YWA will sponsor and observe Senior Citizens Day on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. The Rev. L.C. Knuckles, associate minister at Shady Grove, will deliver the message. Other senior citizens or "Mighty Oaks" will be on program, including Rev. Brewton, Rev. Warren Manning, Rev. Richardson and Rev. Ricky Smith. The Senior Hymn Choir and the All Male Choir will sing. Dr. Kirk Neely, pastor of Morningside Baptist Church, Spartanburg, will be at Kirby Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 p.m. to present a seminar on grief. Dr. Neely is the author of "When Grief Comes." Everyone is invited to attend this free program. For more information, call 864-489- 4884. Bible conference Biblefest '08, sponsored by First Foundations Inc., will be held Nov. 21-22 at North Greenville University. The theme is "The Bible: Faith's First Foundation," and keynote speaker will be Dr. Don Wilton, pastor of Spartanburg First Baptist Church. Seminar leaders will be Dr. Don Mathis, Dr. Walter Johnson, Dr. Ronald Marks, Dr. Gene Gurganus, Dr. James Deuink, Kelechi Benet and Sen. David Thomas. Music will be provided by Joyful Sound and Steve Kaminski. Two meals are included with full registration. Reservations are required; call 864-834- 2300. Fund raisers Blacksburg Auxiliary Auxiliary 4941 will have a yard sale Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Post located on Brugg Street. The sale will be from 7 a.m. until noon. Proceeds will go to the Cherokee Children's Home. Mt. Whitaker Baptist Church in Blacksburg is selling tickets for a chicken/fish fry to raise money for a Montana mission trip. Plates are $8 and include a choice of chicken tenders, flounder fillet or a combination of both, plus fries, hush puppies, slaw and sauces. The event will be Saturday, Dec. 13, from 4-7 p.m. Eat-in or take out. Tickets must be purchased in advance; to order a ticket, contact Ellen Owen, 864-839- 5047. Grahams Fish Camp of Gastonia, N.C., is catering the fundraiser. |
