Sissy & Dav's more than fresh meals and a smile
"I just want to take care of people, it's just something I love to do."

      Sissy Jolley and David McCraw are welcoming everyone to their dinner table. Offering a menu of fresh, home-cooked meals and a smile, the partners recently opened Sissy & Dav's Kitchen a few weeks ago. Acquiring the rights to the former Doghouse Cafe restaurant on Limestone Street, Jolley and McCraw had to move fast in getting the business up and running.

Thief makes off with thousands in merchandise

      A brazen thief intent on stealing a handful of designer handbags pushed aside a clerk at the Bargain Shoes store on Monday afternoon during his getaway. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the still-unidentified thief came into the store and grabbed an armful of about 20 designer Coach handbags valued at $225 each, or $4,500 overall.

Man gets 10 years for armed robbery

      A Rock Hill man learned there's no leeway in South Carolina for an armed robbery. Kenneth Jason Rhyne, 19, was sentenced to the minimum sentence of 10 years in the state Department of Corrections on Monday in Cherokee County General Sessions Court after pleading guilty.

      WINNIE DAVIS TOWER — A new tower is under construction beside the Winnie Davis Hall of History as part of a $4.8 million restoration project on the Limestone College campus. The building is being renovated for new classrooms, a museum and faculty offices. It is scheduled for completion next fall.

Computer classes at library
      The Cherokee County Public Library is accepting registrations for computer classes. The one-session classes will be at the Gaffney library, 300 Rutledge Ave., from 10 a.m. until noon. Classes are free and are for ages 18 and up.

      Counting quickly to eight, Gaffney High cheerleaders Brianna Payne and Amy Dill allow themselves to be raised high in the air to form a human version of a bow and arrow. Coaches Elizabeth Ireton and Pam Elliott watched with a critical eye Monday afternoon as the cheerleaders repeated the difficult stunt on a mat in the commons area.

      COLUMBIA — Because of an increased likelihood of hospitalization related to flu-related complications, South Carolina's senior citizens are encouraged to get their flu vaccinations, the state Department of Health and Environmental Control announced today.
