Limestone men's basketball coach Brandon Scott is hoping his threeguard lineup produces big results this season.

The Saints, which opened the season with a victory over North Greenville on Tuesday, return only one starter.

The Saints will rebuild around some talented newcomers, including Stewart Clark, freshman Mike Barrett, who scored 40 points in a high school game; Tyrone Evans and Spartanburg Methodist product Anthony Middleton, who hauled down 17 rebounds in a preseason game.

Middleton will be the team's tallest starter at 6-5.

A couple of other first-year players, James Hudson, a 6-6 inside player from Georgia; and Charlotte's Brandon Long are also expected to contribute this season.

Bobby Grier, who averaged six points a game, is the lone returning starter. Former Dorman standout Shawn Creal also returns for the Saints.

Scott said he will start three guards to force an uptempo.

"We will play fairly fast," he said. "And we've done pretty well in a couple of preseason games."

The Saints should be even stronger next season when a couple of highly-regarded players become eligible.

"We have phenomenal kids now," Scott said. "They do exactly what I ask them to do. I just don't know how long it will take for us to be very competitive."

The Saints were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. Mt. Olive was the preseason pick to win the conference. Barton was picked to finish second.

"We are skilled at the guard position, but thin at forward," Scott said. "But these kids are mentally tough. Last year, I never knew how hard they would play. But these kids have responded great."

The team's home opener is Saturday, Nov. 29 against Newberry.
