Wednesday fire destroys house

By TIM GULLA Ledger Staff Writer tim@gaffneyledger.com

A home on Buck Shoals Road that was being remodeled burned early Wednesday.

Cherokee Creek Volunteer Fire Department Chief Reggie Petty said the home, which was unoccupied at the time, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at about 1:30 a.m.

"The roof was already gone," he said of the damage that already had been done. It appeared the fire had been burning for some time.

The home was declared a total loss. Petty said a cause was not readily apparent due to the extensive nature of the damage.

Cherokee Creek was assisted at the scene by Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department and Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department.

Petty said firefighters were at the scene for about two hours.

The name of the property owner wasn't immediately available.

No injuries were reported.
