Removing tax shouldn't be part of the equation A no-tax weekend for firearms sales? The natural question that comes to mind is, "Why?" It is understandable for the state to have a tax-free weekend for back-toschool shopping. That saves money for the average taxpayer who is trying to save every dollar while preparing to send sons and daughters to school for another year. ... Now the weekend after Thanksgiving has been designated by the Legislature as a Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday, a weekend when handguns, rifles and shotguns can be purchased without paying sales tax. One wonders why there is a suspension on the tax for this particular product on that particular weekend. ... The Second Amendment does give people the right to bear arms, but removing the sales tax should not be part of that equation. At a time of budget crisis, the state should not be looking for ways to bring in less money but should receive every cent that is owed in the form of legal taxes. Aiken Standard |
