Alice Wright

Cherokee County native

EARL, N.C. - Alice Elizabeth Elliott Wright, 94, of 111 Eva Lane, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 27, 1914, in Cherokee County, S.C., she was the widow of Allen Wright and daughter of the late Walter Elliott and the late Rosa Nance Elliott. Alice retired from Minette Mills, was a homemaker, and enjoyed canning, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a former teacher in the Beginners Department and Vacation Bible School worker.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Wright "Bumgarner"; three brothers, Clarence Elliott, Walter Elliott Jr. and Herbert Elliott; and two sisters, Ruby Ledford and Ethel Elliott.

Surviving are a son, Harold "Sonny" Wright and wife, Judy, of Blacksburg, S.C.; a daughter, Joyce Wright Sheaffer and husband, Cliff, of Earl; two brothers, James Nathan Elliott and wife, Betty, and Wade Elliott of Gaffney; three sisters, Pearl Elliott Phillips and husband, Monroe, of Gaffney, Millie Elliott McCraw of Henrietta, N.C., and Ruth Elliott Cole and husband, Charles, of Temple, Texas; four grandchildren, Susan Elizabeth Spencer and husband, Craig, Stacy Bryn Wright, David Allen Wright and wife, Andrea, and Marcie Elizabeth Wright; and three greatgrandchildren, Benjamin Allen Spencer, Sarah Elizabeth Spencer and Shelby Lynn Spencer.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3:30 p.m. in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Russ Bradley and David Gordon. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday in the Hope Center at the church.

The family is at the home.
