POLICE REPORT
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred eight months ago but wasn't reported until recently.
The teenage victim in the case, according to a police report, is pregnant with her alleged attacker's child.
Police said they were notified of the incident by a Department of Social Services case worker. The incident allegedly occurred last March inside a local motel. A man known to the victim only by a first name, allegedly asked the teen to have sex in the motel's laundry room and then forced her into his motel room, where he assaulted her, after she told him no.
The Gaffney Police Department reported a new variation on a phone scam.
A 65-year-old woman received an unsolicited phone call Nov. 19 from an unidentified female who claimed to be with a government-affiliated company. The caller was intent on getting the city woman to divulge her checking account number. The woman didn't give the caller any information and the caller hung up.
Last week, The Gaffney Ledger was told unidentified men had made similar calls to several local women also seeking access to their bank account numbers. In those cases, the callers claimed to be from a bank, though the name of the bank was never mentioned during the conversation. Consumer advocates say your bank would never call you to ask you for checking account number and that you should simply hang up on calls seeking personal information.
The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the reported assault of a 12- year-old girl on a school bus.
According to a police report, a 14-year-old boy grabbed the hood of a 12-year-old girl's jacket on Nov. 14 at about 3:30 p.m. and jerked her out of her bus seat, causing the girl to strike her head on the bus window.
The boy then allegedly kicked the girl several times on the side of her leg. Police said the incident happened just outside Gaffney High School on Twin Lakes Road.
A rock was thrown through a window on East Junior High Road on Nov. 18, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. in the 200 block. The window damage is estimated at $200.
The Gaffney Police Department reported an act of vandalism at a local store during which someone damaged about $100 in merchandise.
According to a police report, an unknown woman went into Fred's Discount Store on Wilkinsville Highway on Nov. 18 at about 12:20 p.m. and squirted dish detergent on merchandise and the floor in one aisle, and a bottle of liquid scrubbing detergent in the adjacent aisle.
A van owner sustained about $400 in damage Nov. 18 when someone broke into the vehicle.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred in the 2300 block of Chesnee Highway outside a church. There was no information that anything had been taken.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the burglary of a home on Ninety- Nine Island Road on Nov. 19.
According to a police report, someone forced open a door to a home in the 800 block between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Nothing appeared to be missing from the interior. Damage is estimated at $20.
Someone stole about $400 in video games from a Mascot Drive home, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Police said the home in the 100 block was entered between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The burglar( s) took eight games for an Xbox game system.
About $600 in electronics and other items were stolen from a car parked outside a West Buford Street apartment between Nov. 15 and Nov. 17.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, the vehicle's owner found his dashboard ripped apart on Nov. 17 outside Westwood Apartments. The car radio, an iPod music player and sunglasses were missing from the vehicle.
A handgun was reported stolen from a Camelia Circle home on Nov. 18.
According to the Gaffney Police Department, a Taurus PT25 .25-caliber handgun was taken from the residence between 5 p.m. Nov. 17 and 6 p.m. Nov. 18. The gun is black with pink pearl grips.
Three teenagers were arrested Nov. 19 after police received a report they were smoking marijuana behind a West Floyd Baker Boulevard restaurant.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, police were dispatched to the Waffle House regarding a report of people in a car smoking marijuana. Police observed the car leaving the lot upon their arrival and a traffic stop was conducted. After noticing a smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said they called in a drug sniffing dog which found a small amount of marijuana in the car. All three teens were charged with simple possession.
A window air conditioning unit was stolen recently from a Blacksburg Highway home.
According to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone took the window unit, valued at $138, from a home in the 1400 block between Nov. 4 and Nov. 13.
