Holiday hours

The Cherokee County Public Library and the Blacksburg Public Library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, through Saturday, Nov. 30, and will reopen Monday, Dec. 1.

The Cherokee County History and Arts Museum will be open by appointment only Nov. 26-29 and Dec. 24-27, and will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan.1.

The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department, Recycling Center and Landfill will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28. Use extra containers for any overflow of garbage and recycling materials on Thursday, Dec. 4, and Friday, Dec. 5. The Recycling Center receiving bay will be open Saturday, Nov. 29, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The landfill will be open Saturday, Nov. 29, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Classes

Upstate Carolina Medical Center offers free prepared childbirth classes on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. in the hospital's classroom. Taught by a certified childbirth educator, the classes will benefit new and experienced mothers alike. For more information or to sign up, contact the Women's Center at 864-487-1588. It is recommended that the classes be taken between the 26th and 34th weeks of pregnancy.

Blood drive

Hospice Care of South Carolina is having a blood drive today (Nov. 26) from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at its office,1612 N. Limestone St. Walk-ins are welcome.

Gospel singing

Brian Burchfield of Surgoinsville, Tenn., former lead singer of the Melody Trio, will be in concert Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Chesnee Gospel Music Center, 672 Greenlake Road, Chesnee. For information, call 828-223-1514.

Special events

The U.S. Marine Corps League and Reserves are collecting toys and funds for its Toys for Tots program. The Broad River Leathernecks Marine Detachment, the Cherokee County unit, has placed collections boxes and containers in various local business and banks.
