Blacksburg adds officer to police force

Blacksburg has added local resident Shane Godwin to the town's police force.

After sifting through dozens of applications, town council settled on Godwin, who replaces former officer Derek Greer.

Godwin will soon report to the police academy since this is his first job in the field of law enforcement.

It only took town council a few minutes to decide on Godwin. They wanted to decide on who the new officer would be prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

"We wanted to do things as usual to get this settled," said Blacksburg Town Administrator Trudy Martin. "It was quick with us being here no more than 10 minutes, but we wanted to get this done as soon as possible," the administrator said.

Godwin is the second officer hired to the municipality's police force in the past month. Brandon Heath Dorsett was recently also hired by the town.
