CPAs discuss how women can start a new business at meeting of BPW Club
CPAs Debra L. Kesler, Ruth P. Queen (standing, l-r) and Alison W. Masters (seated) discussed how women can start a new business at the November meeting of the Gaffney BPW Club. The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club met Monday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. at House of Pizza. Debra L. Kesler, Ruth P. Queen and Alison W. Masters discussed "How Women Can Start New Businesses."
The three certified public accountants opened their own business - Kesler, Queen & Masters, CPAs, Inc., this year. After years of working for other firms, they decided to open their own.
New businesses must have sound financial backing. They applied for a loan and received it. They advise anyone starting his/her own business to have money beforehand to cover operating expenses until able to earn a good income. Also, one needs to establish a customer base. The three women were able to bring customers from their previous employment with them.
A question and answer session followed the CPAs' program. They were asked many questions about taxes, since tax time is approaching.
The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club is interested in helping working women and sharing their concerns.
New members of the Gaffney BPW Club are Tammy Hoilo, who owns and operates Deja vu Consignments; Ashley Ashworth, Ms. Hoilo's daughter, who is a college student and works at Deja vu Consignments; Joan Wood, executive director of Seniors Centers of Cherokee County; Brenda Earls, who works at Strawberry Hill, USA; and Sara L.
