Hames brothers and Elmore named all-region

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Sports Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

Chris Hames Chris Hames Chris and Chase Hames made quite an impression with their hard work in the weight room and effort on the playing field for Blacksburg this season.

Chris and Chase Hames joined Blacksburg defensive back Josh Elmore in being selected to the All- Region team by coaches in Class A Region II.

Head coach Mickey Moss confirmed the players selection when reached at the school Tuesday afternoon.

Chris Hames emerged as the team's top offensive weapon late in the year. He caught four passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Southside Christian. He had five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in Blacksburg's first round playoff loss to Calhoun County earlier this month.

Moss is hopeful Chris Hames will have an opportunity to play college football. Several schools have shown an interest in Hames, though the head coach did not go into specifics.

"Chris and Chase are hard workers who are out there lifting weights and working hard every day after school," Moss said. "Chris has a chance to play college football next year. He is a good student and hard worker so we will see if we can help make that happen for Chris."

Josh Elmore Josh Elmore Elmore was one of the team's most valuable players this season. The senior played five positions for Blacksburg including safety, cornerback, wide receiver, running back and placekicker.

Elmore became the starting quarterback late in the year and performed admirably. He threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns in win over Southside Christian.

Elmore followed the performance by rushing for 87 yards in a playoff game at Calhoun County. He led Blacksburg on two touchdown drives against Calhoun County, which was one of the state's most stingy defenses.

"Josh did a good job for us in the secondary before taking over for us at quarterback late in the season," Moss said.

The Blacksburg football team will begin offseason workouts Monday following the Thanksgiving holidays.

Sophomore Chase Hames is one of the key returners for Blacksburg. Hames had six interceptions for Blacksburg while frequently matched against the opposing team's top wide receiver.

"We hope Chase will have a good offseason. He needs to get a little bigger and stronger," Moss said. "Chase is our top running back. He will have to carry a load on both sides of the ball next season."
