A high-speed chase on Interstate 85 during the busy Black Friday morning rush hour reportedly led to a shocking experience for a Mauldin man when he was captured at Prime Outlets - Gaffney.

While the South Carolina Highway Patrol would provide few details about the actual chase, it began at 8:11 a.m. on Friday when a Highway Patrol trooper stopped a Dodge Durango SUV on the southbound lanes of the interstate near the 102 mile marker in Blacksburg.

As the trooper approached the driver's window on foot, the driver sped away and a chase ensued, according to public information officer Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin.

Gaskin could not provide information about the speeds reached during the chase.

A member of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office waited near Exit 92 to assist if needed and joined the chase as it passed by the exit. The driver of the SUV, later identified as 23-year-old Shacko A. Pearson of 288 Old Mill Road, Mauldin, subsequently got off the highway at Exit 90 and ultimately stopped near the outlet mall.

The chase wasn't over yet, however, as police allege Pearson then fled on foot.

While Gaskin could not confirm what happened next, and directed additional questions about the apprehension to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the assisting member of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reportedly used a Taser stun gun to stop Pearson outside the mall.

A police report from the sheriff's office was not made available over the holiday weekend.

Pearson and an adult passenger in the SUV, identified by the Highway Patrol as Antwinette J. Dukes, 23, of 1011 W. Butler Road, Greenville, both were taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center after the chase ended.

Gaskin said there were several juveniles in the vehicle as well.

Pearson was charged with speeding, a fifth offense of driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights and child endangerment, according to Gaskin.

Dukes was charged with permitting an unauthorized person to drive a vehicle, Gaskin said.

Pearson still was lodged at the county jail as of Monday morning. His bond had been set at $10,042.

Dukes was not listed among the prisoners being held there, according to the detention center.
