POLICE REPORT The Gaffney Police Department is investigating a reported assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature that occurred Nov. 21. A 48-year-old Camellia Circle man told police his ex-girlfriend, a 42-year-old city woman, tried to run him over with her car on Martin Luther King Jr. Street at about 10 p.m. The man injured his arm when he fell while trying to avoid being struck, he said. Police interviewed the man at Upstate Carolina Medical Center's emergency room. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Nov. 23 at a Wilcox Avenue home. According to a police report, a 48-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman who lived in the 700 block were robbed at gunpoint at about 1:40 a.m. by a woman and a man known to the victims only by their first names. The robbers allegedly live in the Lockhart area. The victims said they were robbed of $700 and two cell phones. A barking dog alerted a Russell Street resident of a break-in Nov. 22. According to the Gaffney Police Department, a resident of the 300 block was in bed at about 4 a.m. Nov. 22 when her dog started barking and ran toward the door. An unknown burglar had forced entry but fled from the scene. Nothing was missing from the home but police said the windshield of the resident's car also was broken that night, resulting in about $250 in damage. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office recovered a stolen vehicle from an Interstate 85 entrance ramp Nov. 21. According to a police report, a vehicle reported stolen from Gardner-Webb College was found abandoned at about 7:50 p.m. on the entrance ramp near Mile Marker 106. The vehicle, which wasn't described in the report, is valued at $5,000. A man fled after he was caught breaking into a vehicle near Upstate Carolina Medical Center on Nov. 21. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a woman exited the hospital's emergency room at about 8:50 p.m. and spotted a man in the doorway of her car. He fled upon being seen. The woman told police she was missing a burgundy-colored Verizon cell phone, $9 in cash, and a pack of cigarettes from her car. The Gaffney Police Department reported about $2,500 in vandalism damage to a car parked on Iris Lane. According to a police report, the paint on a woman's 1998 Acura vehicle was scratched in multiple places and obscenities were scratched into the trunk and hood sometime between 10:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and 9 a.m. Nov. 23. A pistol and jewelry were reported stolen from a Holmes Road home following a recent burglary. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced entry to a home in the 100 block between Nov. 21 and Nov. 22. Among the items reported stolen are 10 rings, a gold chain, computer software and a .38 caliber pistol. Theft losses are estimated at $4,000. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a motorcycle valued at $20,000 from a Chambers Road home recently. According a police report, a black 2008 Harley-Davidson FXCWC Rocker Softail was taken from the 200 block between 9:30 p.m. Nov. 21 and 9:15 a.m. Nov. 22. About $700 in video games and a game system were reported stolen following the burglary of a South Limestone Street home. According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, an Xbox game system and games, some of which were rented, were taken from a home in the 900 block between 10 p.m. Nov. 23 and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 24. Nothing else was reported missing. A television was reported stolen from a Cherokee Avenue home Nov. 24. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, a 22- inch Magnavox television was taken from a home in the 1300 block at about 8 a.m. The television is valued at $25. Gaffney Police Department is investigating a shoplifting incident that occurred Nov. 25 at the Big Lots on West Floyd Baker Boulevard. Two men went into the store about 1:35 p.m. and walked to the back. Witnesses told police the men then grabbed a portable generator and ran out the store. The thieves fled from the scene in a white Pontiac car, which contained a third man. Police said they located the vehicle based on its description of travel on Marietta Street and determined the car's license plate had been switched with a paper tag. The car was towed from the scene. Police said they subsequently received information the generator was taken to a Kraft Street home. Investigations were ongoing as of Nov. 26. A lawn mower stolen from a Sycamore Street garage was likely recovered from a South Granard Street parking lot about two hours later. According to separate police reports at the Gaffney Police Department, a green push mower was stolen from a garage in the 200 block of Sycamore Street at about 8:45 p.m. Nov. 25. A witness saw two men take the mower and walk towards Chandler Drive. About two hours later, police received a report of a man pushing a mower down Catherine Street and they found a green Craftsman mower in the parking lot of a South Granard Street business. The mower was taken back to police headquarters to determine the proper owner. A burglar targeted a shed on a Walnut Hill Farm Road property between Nov. 23 and Nov. 25. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the burglar(s) forced open the shed door and took a green Poulan chain saw, a blue 1200- watt generator, a gray tool box with tools and wrenches, a black 3-ton floor jack, a Weedeater leaf blower, and a Black & Decker hammer drill. The combined value of the stolen items is estimated at more than $830. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a tree stand used for deer hunting and a wildlife feeder from a Bridges Road property in Blacksburg. The two items were taken from a property in the 1000 block between Nov. 18 and Nov. 25, the property owner told police. The items are valued at a combined $190. An all-terrain vehicle was reported stolen from a Cowpens property. A blue and grey 1998 Yamaha Warrior ATV was taken from the 5000 block of Cannons Campground Road between Nov. 21 and Nov 25, according to a report at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. The ATV was valued at about $2,500. More than $2,200 in property was reported stolen from a 1st Avenue home in Gaffney following a burglary, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Between 9:30 p.m. Nov. 25 and 10 p.m. Nov. 26, someone entered a home in the 700 block and took two glass end tables, a glass-top coffee table, a six-drawer desk and an Xbox video game system. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported a break-in at a Moda Road home Nov. 26. According to a police report, someone broke into the home between 5:15 p.m. and 10 p.m. Nothing appeared missing from the home, however. |
