Wayland Cantrell, 79, of 1312 Cliffside Hwy, Gaffney, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.

Born May 26, 1929, in Spartanburg, he was the widower of Joyce Baker Cantrell and son of the late Francis Marion and Myrtle Bishop Cantrell. He was a member of Stateline Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Ron Cantrell and fianceé, Paulette Chapman, of Gaffney and the Rev. Joey Cantrell and wife, Cyndi, of Cliffside, N.C.; two daughters, Phyllis McCombs and husband, Sydney, of Plymouth, N.C., and Terri Lynn Parris and husband, Rick, of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a long time special friend, Frances Hammett of Chesnee.

Mr. Cantrell was also preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Mason.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee.

Services will be Thursday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at Stateline Baptist Church with the Revs. John Godfrey, Charlie Blackwell and Ray Hefner officiating. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stateline Baptist Church Building Fund, 1328 State Line Road, Gaffney, SC 29341.

The family is at the home of Ron Cantrell, 1206 N. Green River Road, Gaffney.
