Abed leads Anderson to win over Lady Saints

Ashley Abed came off the bench to score 17 points and three other Anderson University players reached double figures as the Lady Trojans beat Limestone 66- 57 in a Conference Carolinas game Tuesday night at the Abney Center.

Anderson, 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, led from start to finish.

The Lady Trojans jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game and led by as many as 11 points in the first half and 14 points in the second half.

Limestone, 2-3 and 1-2, got within 55-52 with 4:20 remaining, but a field goal by Keana Boyd, a 3-point basket by Abed and a free throw by Kirsten Peterson put the Lady Trojans back in front 61-52 with 2:03 remaining.

Abed was 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-4 from behind the arc.

Abed was followed by Boyd with 16 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists; Peterson with 13 points and 12 rebounds; and Shanice Wilson with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Limestone was led by Tierney Burdett with a game-high 24 points.

Burdett was 8-for-15 from the field and 6-for-9 from behind the arc.

Breanna Ray and Whitney Todd added 10 points apiece for the Saints.

Anderson held a 56-27 advantage on the glass and outscored Limestone in the paint, 36-18.

Anderson finished the game at 50 percent from the field after shooting 64 percent (16-for-25) in the second half.

Limestone managed just 31 percent from the field for the game.

The Lady Saints will return to the court after finals on Dec. 16 at Newberry College.
