DECKING THE HALLS, GAFFNEY STYLE

City of Gaffney's streets workers needed a bucket truck and a lot of muscle-power to get the city's 30-foot Christmas tree standing upright. But all the hard work was worth it once you see the end result. This year's tree, which stands in the park next to City Hall, was donated by Doris W. Lanier of Hamrick Street, whose son happens to work for the city. Another city worker had been noticing the tree as a possible Christmas candidate during his travels to and from his home and asked a coworker, Bruce Lanier, if he knew who owned the property where the shapely cedar was standing. Bruce Lanier responded that his mother owned the property and he gave her a call to see if she'd be interested in sharing it for the Christmas season. The tree will officially be lit during the Christmas on Limestone celebration tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. City of Gaffney's streets workers needed a bucket truck and a lot of muscle-power to get the city's 30-foot Christmas tree standing upright.
