Wildcats drop to 0-2 with loss to Spartanburg Christian

Blacksburg's Josh Elmore had 18 points and J.J. Lattimore scored 12 but it wasn't enough to prevent Spartanburg Christian from improving to 5-1 with a 58-48 victory on Thursday.

Elmore was particularly effective from long range, with five 3- pointers.

Mason Crow had 17 points and Travis Black added 15 to lead Spartanburg Christian, which jumped to a double-digit lead at the end of the first quarter.

Spartanburg Christian increased its advantage to 36-22 at the break.

The Wildcats showed signs of life in the second half, outscoring Spartanburg Christian in the third quarter.

Ben Keaton scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, for Spartanburg Christian.

Blacksburg falls to 0-2.

In girls varsity action, the Lady Wildcats failed to score in the first half in a 55-9 loss to Spartanburg Christian, which built a 49-2 cushion at the end of the third quarter.

Rebecca Carrigan led three Spartanburg Christian players in double figures with 14 points.

Jodie Black had 11 points and Kelsey Crow added 10 for Spartanburg Christian, which improves to 7-1, while the Lady Wildcats fall to 0-2.

Malory Sanders who scored 25 points in the Lady Wildcats' season opener was held to just four points on Thursday.

A week after the teams' first meeting, the Wildcats will host rival Chesnee on Tuesday.
