Claims no landfill equals tax increase

Dear Editor:

During a time where joblessness is at an alltime high, budgets are being slashed and services are being cut, Cherokee County is being presented with an opportunity for growth. The proposed 3Cycle environmental center is an opportunity to grow jobs, attract new business and provide much-needed revenue to the county's budget.

But there's something else — if county council doesn't approve the project, Cherokee County won't just go back to the status quo. We will have to find a way to deal with our waste in the long term, and that is not going to be cheap. In other words, if county council says no to 3Cycle, they will be saying yes to a tax increase. I doubt all of the vocal opponents of 3Cycle will be in favor of the tax hike that will inevitably occur if they succeed in their crusade.

And I would charge the vast silent majority to stand up for your paychecks, your tax dollars and your county's economy, and not simply let the vocal few stand up and increase your taxes. Sissy Brock Gaffney, SC
