Victim of hit-and-run asks judge to show leniency

      An 18-year-old Gaffney woman facing at least a month in jail received sympathy from a judge and the victim of her crime Monday, resulting in her being sent home from the Cherokee County Courthouse with no further penalty. Nancy Razo was 17 years old last February when she struck a pedestrian with her car near Highway 11 and Northgate Road.

7 Cherokee County teachers earn national accreditation

      A first grade student's eyes lit up as he mimicked the sounds of a fishing rod dipping into water in response to a fishing question from Mary Bramlett Elementary teacher Ruth Glasgow. Tapping into the student's connection with fishing, Glasgow drew on her experiences teaching reading recovery to work with her first grade class in small groups Tuesday afternoon.

Bond set for two more suspects in home invasion case

      The Angel Oak tree is the oldest living thing east of the Mississippi River. At a height of 65 feet, the live oak tree is believed to be 1,400 years old. It stands in a wooded area on John's Island outside Charleston.

POLICE REPORT
      A deer rifle was reported stolen from a vehicle on 10th Street on Nov. 27. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone went into a vehicle parked in the 300 block of 10th Street and took a Remington Model 710 deer rifle in .300 Magnum caliber. The rifle is valued at $750.

Limestone athletes making a difference

      In his college days, Limestone College lacrosse player Nick DeLonga was one of the nation's top faceoff specialists and a key member on the 2002 national championship team. DeLonga has been a platoon leader for the Marines during America's five year war in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is among several Limestone College lacrosse alumni that are now fighting for their country.
