Wrestlers flex muscles in easy win over Chesnee

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

The Gaffney High wrestling team made it look easy against Chesnee on Monday.

The Indians captured the first four matches, including three by pins, to cruise to an easy 64-15 victory.

Daniel Ruppe won his 103 lb. matchup by forfeit before Blake Phillips, Dylan Haney and Garett Woodworth earned pins in their respective matches.

In the 140 lbs. division, Brian Sullivan started another string of pins for Gaffney.

Randy Hopson, Ty Jennings and Wesley Henderson also got pins in the 145 lbs.,152 lbs. and 160 lbs. weight divisions.

Sam Tedder broke the streak of pins, but earned points for the Indians, nonetheless, with a decision at 189 lbs.

Stan Easterling improved his record to 6-0 with a pin in the 215 lbs. weight class. James Costello finished off the decisive victory with a pin in the 285 lbs. class.

Phillips, Haney and Hopson also improve to 6- 0.

"It was our first home match and it was a good effort by everybody," Gaffney assistant coach David Bush said.

Bush said he also was encouraged by the fan support at Monday's match.

The Indians travel to Traveler's Rest on Saturday for the Devil Dogs Duals.
