7 Indians selected to all-region team
      At 6-4 and more than 330 pounds, Gaffney's Denzelle Good is used to standing out. But he has plenty of company on the all-region team announced Tuesday. Good, who has verbally committed to North Carolina State and has been picked to play in the Shrine Bowl, is among seven Indians selected to the first team.

Gaffney blasts Vikings
      No Emison Hughes. No problem for the Gaffney Indians. Hughes, Gaffney's starting point guard, was in Mrytle Beach practicing for the North-South All-Star game on Saturday. But Paris Funderburke and Dershawn Dawkins turned in solid performances to help the Indians to a surprisingly easy 77-59 victory over the rival Spartanburg Vikings.

Wrestlers flex muscles in easy win over Chesnee
      The Gaffney High wrestling team made it look easy against Chesnee on Monday. The Indians captured the first four matches, including three by pins, to cruise to an easy 64-15 victory. Daniel Ruppe won his 103 lb. matchup by forfeit before Blake Phillips, Dylan Haney and Garett Woodworth earned pins in their respective matches.

Leach scores 21 points to lead Lady Indians to victory over rival Spartanburg
      Gaffney point guard Keisha Leach was too much for the Spartanburg Lady Vikings to handle on Tuesday. Leach scored on a driving layup to push the Lady Indians' advantage to four points with a minute to go and hit a free throw down the stretch to seal a 63-58 victory for the 2-0 Lady Indians.

NFL sheds jobs in wake of downturn in country's economy
      The NFL pays its players billions of dollars a year and fans pack its stadiums every week. But even the deeppocketed league is shedding jobs. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that the league is cutting more than 10 percent of its staff in response to the downturn in the nation's economy that could put a dent in ticket sales for next season.

      Santa Claus goes everywhere from his base in the North Pole. Blacksburg resident Michael Nix has experienced the far reach of Santa Claus firsthand through his duties with the U.S. Air Force. Care packages and letters have arrived from Blacksburg Primary and Grassy Pond Elementary to remind Nix about the Christmas spirit.
