Mettie Mae Humphries Greene Mathis, 92, of Peachtree Centre went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, she was first married to the late William Shuford Greene and then married to the late Jesse Mathis. She was the daughter of the late Gaither Cleveland Humphries and Cora Roberson Humphries.

Mrs. Mathis was retired from the textiles industry and was a retired practical nurse. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Greene Pigford and Shirley Greene Huskey, both of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Cara Huskey Anthony of Shelby, N.C., Morna P. Bailey, Edwin Pigford and Chuck Greene, all of Blacksburg, Eric Pigford of Concord, N.C., Chad Huskey and Joel Greene, both of Gaffney; eight greatgrandchildren; a brother, Maynard E. Humphries of Gastonia, N.C.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by a son, Charles Shuford Greene; a brother, Johnny Cleveland Hum-phries; and three sisters, Pearlie Sisk Martin, Lettie Bailey and Phyrnia Biddix.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 13, from 1-2 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Alan Peeler and Steve Sisk officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
