Christmas services

"A Christmas Celebration" will be presented at Restoration Church International of Gaffney, 1905 N. Limestone St., on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. The RCI Choir will be joined by Antioch Baptist Choir, New Jerusalem Church Choir of Shelby, Lawndale First Baptist Choir of Lawndale, N.C., Walls Memorial Church Choir of Shelby, Dale Blakley and the Carolina Mass Choir of Spartanburg, and soloist Nicole Stevenson of Greensboro, N.C.

The youths and children of Bethany Baptist Church, 215 Wilkinsville Hwy., will present Angel Alert - The Night That Heaven Came Down by Celeste Clydesdale on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. The play depicts an angel choir that is waiting to be told when to go to Earth to give the big announcement. As they wait for the call, they review God's faithfulness through His promises and relevant prophesies about the Savior's birth. The Adult Choir of Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road, will present the Christmas musical, "The Name of Jesus," on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m. A fellowship meal will follow the program.

There will be a special "Hanging of the Greenery" program Sunday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens.

The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation on College Drive will hold special Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Limestone Presbyterian Church will hold its annual candlelight Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. with special music and readings by members of the congregation. The church is located on Limestone Street across from Buford Street Drugs.

Gospel singing

The Chesnee Gospel Music Center will host a Christmas party starting at 5:30 p.m. with the Singing Profits from North Carolina in concert at 7 p.m. For more information, call Jeff Walker, 828-223-1514.

Church news

The first Santa Shoppe for missions will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Kirby Memorial Baptist Church, 512 Chandler Drive. There will be gifts for everyone on your list, including gift baskets, gift cards, jewelry, etc. All proceeds will benefit the KMBC South Asia mission team.

Mt. Olive Baptist Church will hold a Family and Friends Day service Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. The Rev. C.A. Wallace, pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and his church family will be guests.

The Praise Ensemble of Life Changer's Church will have a celebration Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4 p.m.

The Children's Choir of Southside Church will present the Christmas musical, "Glory to God in the Highest," Sunday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m.

Shady Grove Church Senior Missionary and Young Women's Auxiliary Christmas project is to help provide Christmas gifts for the residents at Brookview Nursing Home. They will be providing square boxes of facial tissue for each resident. Anyone who would like to participate in the effort may call Mary Jones at 490- 1027.

Meetings

Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have their Christmas get-together Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. at the Community Building in Blacksburg.

Activities for seniors

Senior Centers of Cherokee County will be offering classes based on the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Jan. 6 for eight weeks.This nonclinical group exercise designed to help those who have joint or muscle problems achieve improved joint mobility, muscle strength and endurance, helping them to improve performance during daily activities. The program consists of exercise, health education, movement activities and relaxation exercise. If interested in the classes, call 487-2725.

A Chronic Disease Living Well Program will be offered at the Blacksburg Senior Center to those who have a chronic disease but are not educated about their illness. The best way to help is to offer information so persons can manage their illness better. These classes will start Jan. 7 and continue every Wednesday for six weeks. Fund raisers

The Blacksburg Rotary Club is selling Benson's twopound fruit cakes to support its local charities. The cakes are $11 each and are available from any Blacksburg Rotary Club member and in Blacksburg at American Community Bank, Gordon Mortuary, The Blacksburg Times office, Kirby's Flowers, Palmetto Bank and Blacksburg primary, elementary and middle schools. In Gaffney, fruit cakes may be purchased at Correll Insurance Group, Gaffney Middle School or Foster Funeral Home.
