WHAT'S UP Fund raisers The President's Ministry of Mount Tabor Baptist Church will have a fish and hot dog sale Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at The Hut on Martin Luther King Jr. Street, formerly Parks Street. Fish plates are $6 and hot dog plates are $5. Fish sandwiches and hot dogs will also be sold. Christmas services The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation on College Drive will hold special Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. A Christmas cantata, "A Christmas Offering," and a Christmas play, "Christmas on Trial," will be presented Sunday, Dec. 21, at Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, 109 School St., Cherokee Falls. The cantata will be presented at 11 a.m. and the play will be at 6 p.m. Bethany Baptist Church, 215 Wilkinsville Hwy., will present a live nativity scene Thursday, Dec. 18, through Sunday, Dec. 21, from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. This is a drivethrough nativity with a CD or cassette given at the beginning to narrate the different scenes. Park Hills Baptist Church, 1100 Leadmine Road, will have special Christmas services Sunday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m. The Christmas story will be narrated by Mike Dobbins and a concert will be presented by the Park Hills Praise Team (Ross Bratton, Tammy Hancock, Allan and Janet Painter). The church's choir, under the direction of Marshall Goforth, will conclude the services with a cantata, "A Carol Fantasia." On Wednesday, Dec. 24, a Christmas Eve candlelight communion service will begin at 5 p.m. The Adult Choir of Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O'Neal St., will present the Christmas musical, "A Christmas Offering," Saturday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. A Christmas monologue message will be presented Sunday, Dec. 21, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 216 Macedonia Road. Limestone Presbyterian Church will hold its annual candlelight Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. with special music and readings by members of the congregation. The church is located on Limestone Street across from Buford Street Drugs. The Sunday School Department of Shady Grove Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas program Saturday, Dec. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Thickety Mountain Associational Building. The program is a dinner theater and all classes from beginners through adults will perform Christmas skits, songs and dances. Following the program, the Shady Grove Church family will have their annual Christmas dinner. Holiday hours The City of Gaffney Sanitation Department will observe Thursday, Dec. 25, as a holiday. That day's route will be picked up on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24; have carts out on the curbside by 7 a.m. that day. The Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney and Blacksburg will have the following hours during the holidays: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Iron City Ministries in Blacksburg will be closed Dec. 19-Jan. 4 and reopen on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009. Church news The Youth Department of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a Christmas Extravaganza Sunday, Dec. 21, at 5 p.m. There will be several talented dance groups and choirs represented. Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will host its third Saturday night singing Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Phillips Family, Two for One and The Hamptons. There will be a special service Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at New Harvest Ministries, 215 Pecan St. Evangelist Don Parris from California will be ministering. |
