Rosanell "Rose" Spencer Kennedy

Retired from Cherokee Recreation

Rosanell Spencer Kennedy, 76, of Regency Retirement Village in Charlotte, N.C., went home to be with the Lord and join Ken on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, 16 years to the day of her brain aneurysm.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Keenan Leslie Kennedy and daughter of the late Oree and Gladys Spencer. She was retired from Cherokee Recreation, where she served as secretary, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Peach Festival.

During her lifetime, Rose was a clothes and hairstyling model, chaperone for the South Carolina Peach Queen, pageant judge, membership chairman of the PTA, Girl Scout leader, Girls Auxiliary leader, chairman for the March of Dimes, cochair for the Heart Fund, and Sunday School Superintendent. She and her husband Ken were avid Clemson Tiger fans. She was a charter member of West End Baptist Church and sang in the choir.

She is survived by two daughters, Carole Kennedy Baker and husband, Walt, of Gaffney, and Kathie Kennedy Finocchi and husband, Larry, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Walt Baker Jr. of Boston and Cindy Olsen and husband, Tim, of San Francisco; one great-grandchild, John Lawrence Olsen; and a brother, Bill Spencer and wife, Betty, of Shelby.

A sister, Evelyn Spencer Babb, preceded her in death.

Services will be held Friday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. at West End Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Brown, Mr. Nick Leone, and the Rev. Rodney Cook officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West End Baptist Church, 400 Overbrook Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29341; Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342; or the charity of one's choice.

The family will be at the residence of Walt and Carole Baker, 127 Farm Wind Road, Gaffney.
