Holiday hours

The Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney and the Blacksburg Library will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, through Saturday, Dec. 27, and reopen on Monday, Dec. 29, at 9 a.m.

Iron City Ministries in Blacksburg will be closed Dec. 19-Jan. 4 and reopen on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

Fund raisers

The President's Ministry of Mount Tabor Baptist Church will have a fish and hot dog sale Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 11 a.m. at The Hut on Martin Luther King Jr. Street, formerly Parks Street. Fish plates are $6 and hot dog plates are $5. Fish sandwiches and hot dogs will also be sold.

Church news

The Youth Ministry of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will sponsor a breakfast brunch in honor of Dr. and Mrs. J.W. Sanders Sr. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m. in the church dining hall. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Patrick Suber, pastor of Foster's Chapel Baptist Church, Roebuck. Donation is $3 per person. Island Creek will celebrate the 37th pastoral anniversary of Dr. and Mrs. Sanders on Sunday, Dec. 21, during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. The couple's son, Dr. James W. Sanders Jr., will be the speaker. At 4 p.m., the Rev. Timothy Hunter, the choirs and congregation of New Prospect Baptist Church, Enoree, will be special guests.

Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church will sponsor a Christmas play, "The Christmas That Almost Wasn't," on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2:30 p.m.

A Premillennial Bible Conference will be held Jan. 5-9, 2009, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church. The theme is "Staying Straight on the Second Coming."

The Youth Department of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will sponsor a Christmas Extravaganza on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 5 p.m. There will be several dance groups and choirs represented.

Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have a third Saturday night singing Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Phillips Family, Two for One and The Hamptons.

The Youth Ministry of Island Creek Baptist Church, Cowpens, will present its annual Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 8:30 a.m.

There will be a special service Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at New Harvest Ministries, 215 Pecan St. Evangelist Don Parris from California will be ministering.

Shady Grove Church Senior Missionary and Young Women's Auxiliary Christmas project is to help provide Christmas gifts for the residents at Brookview Nursing Home. They will be providing square boxes of facial tissue for each resident. Anyone who would like to participate in the effort may call Mary Jones at 490-1027.
