Edith Whelchel

Retired from Scottie Discount Stores

Edith Elizabeth Clary Whelchel, 91, of 223 E. Jefferies St., Apt. 1, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of James Dewey Whelchel and daughter of the late P. L. Clary Sr. and Alta Ruppe Clary. She was retired from Scottie Discount Stores and a member of West End Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, James Douglas Whelchel of the home and Bruce Whelchel of Gaffney; a grandchild, Stephanie Whelchel of Gaffney; three brothers, Jack Clary and wife, Mary, of Inman, Ray E. Clary and wife, Frances, of Gaffney and Guy Clary and wife, Marrsue, of Gaffney; and a sister, Doris Spencer of Gaffney.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Whelchel was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Moore.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating.
