House heavily damaged by fire A Friday afternoon house fire in the Cowpens area was traced to an electrical problem. At least 20 firefighters from three departments rushed to 2586 Cowpens Pacolet Highway on Friday for a structure fire that broke out at a one-story woodframed home owned by Staniel Hodge. No one was home at the time of the fire. Emergency responders found heavy smoke upon their arrival. Fire Chief Jimmy Lamb of the Goucher-White Plains Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames, containing fire damage to the kitchen and dining room areas of the home. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the house, however, and damage was estimated at about $10,000 overall. Lamb said the origin of the fire was a wall in the kitchen area. The cause of the fire was deemed electrical. Firefighters from Corinth Volunteer Fire Department and Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department assisted Goucher-White Plains at the scene. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with the water they carried in their trucks and there was no need for them to transport additional water by tanker. No injuries were reported. |
