Maxine S. Putnam
Worked with husband for more than 40 years in Putnam Hosiery Company
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. - Helen Maxine Short Putnam, 81, of 340 Oak Grove Road, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at her home. Born in Cleveland County, she and her husband, the late Buren Russell Putnam, were married for 56 years. She was the daughter of the late William Clyde and Vertie Susan Davis Short. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Moore, Betty Mauney and Ruth Turner, and two brothers, J.D. Short and Bob Short. Mrs. Putnam was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and worked with her husband for more than 40 years in the family business, Putnam Hosiery Company. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are sons, Roger D. Putnam and wife, Libby, and Gerald E. Putnam and wife, Stella, all of Kings Mountain; daughters, Debbie P. Van Dyke and husband, Richard, of Kings Mountain and Teresa P. LeMaster and husband, Haile, of Gaffney; grandchildren, Laura P. Evans and husband, Reid, Jim Putnam and wife, Sarah, Susan P. McGorman and husband Keith, Katye F. Price and husband, Greg, Hunter Falls and wife, Julie, Sarah Beth LeMaster, Lee P. Howell and husband, Drew, Russ Putnam, Jordan Van Dyke and Meredith Van Dyke; greatgrandchildren, Zoe, Kara and Erin Evans, Russell Putnam, Emma, Abigail, Jana and Judd Price, Brett Johnson, Ryleigh Falls, Luke Howell; and sisters, Lois Rudy and husband, Grady, of Pageland, S.C., and Patsy Moore and husband, Jerry, of Marsh-ville, N.C. Services will be held Monday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Tim Hendricks and Richard Plyer. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain.
