Patsy Whelchel

Patsy Ruth Berry Whelchel, 70, of Newton, N.C., passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, N.C.

Born June 11, 1938, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Midous Berry and the late Mollie Parris Berry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Whelchel; and two sons, Mitchell Wade Whelchel and Jeffery Todd Whelchel.

Surviving are a son, Mandel Whelchel of Granite Falls; a brother, T. Berry of Cowpens; three sisters, Ellen White, Thelma Reynolds, both of Gaffney, and Netter Cook of Cowpens; and three grandchildren.

Service were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Burke Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. Donald Cline. Burial was in Conover City Cemetery. Visitation was from 10:15-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the service.
