WRECK AT MILE MARKER 96

A man was taken to Upstate Carolina Medical Center following a single-vehicle crash near the 96 Mile marker on Interstate 85 late Sunday morning.

The identity of the man and the cause of the crash weren't immediately available from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, which responded to the scene.

Gouges in the earth and damage along the highway indicated the vehicle had left the roadway, climbed up an embankment, took out several chain link fence posts and apparently glanced off a light standard before coming to a rest.

Firefighters from Gaffney Fire Department and Grassy Pond Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, some cutting a hole in the chain link fence to gain access to the crash site from the frontage road.
