Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Barbara Porter Phillips and son of the late Cline G. Phillips and Annie Mae Fowler Phillips. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Cecil's Business College.

      David Earl Owens, 73, of 1563 Goucher School Road, affectionately called "Papa David" by his grandson, Will, and his granddaughter, Kimsey, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 26, 2008. Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late O.W. Owens and Emma Burgess Owens. He was retired from Acoustics Incorporated of Charlotte, N.C.
