      Dear Editor: A recent trip to Upstate Carolina Medical Center left us pleasantly surprised. My husband had lost approximately onefifth of his blood supply and we were sent by a local physician to Upstate for observation to make sure the bleeding had indeed stopped.

Christmas Is For Kids brightens a lot of lives
      Dear Christmas Is For Kids: I am writing to say thank you to you and all who were a part of the Christmas Is For Kids program. The Saturday shopping certainly helped provide a brighter Christmas for our county's children who might not have had one this year.
