Sheriff's department investigating rash of vehicle break-ins The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported burglaries of five different vehicles in recent days. A vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Georgia Highway was broken into Jan. 3, between 7 a.m. and noon. Nothing was missing from the vehicle but the thief caused about $900 in window and door damage. Two trucks parked in the 100 block of Hamrick Street were broken into Jan. 3, sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Both trucks had broken passenger side windows. A car parked in the 1200 block of Cherokee Avenue was broken into between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 Someone pried off the molding around the side windows to gain access. A Sony CD player, a Chrome tweeter and a case of CDs were taken. Theft losses and damage are estimated at $355. Another truck parked in the 1200 block of Cherokee Avenue also was broken into between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. Someone broke the driver's side window but apparently took nothing. Police said the thief caused about $500 in damage. Gun found Gaffney Police took possession of a handgun that was found in the employee restroom of a West Floyd Baker Boulevard restaurant on New Year's Day. A manager at Ryan's found the gun at about 1 p.m. and called police. The gun is a High Point 9mm semiautomatic. Police were advised a man suspected of possessing the gun had been arrested the previous day. Gun stolen A handgun and ammunition clip were taken from a Blacksburg man's truck while he was inside a West Floyd Baker Boulevard business for just 10 minutes on New Year's Day, according to Gaffney Police. The man, of King's Creek Ford Road, said he went to Lowe's at 1601 W. Floyd Baker Blvd. to buy a heater and was inside the store from 5:35 to 5:45 p.m. Upon returning to his vehicle, he found it had been gone through. A High Point 9mm semiautomatic handgun was stolen from under the seat and a clip of ammunition was taken from the center console, police were told. Shots fired Gaffney Police are on the lookout for three men who may have been involved in a Wednesday morning incident in which shots were fired in front of a Marion Avenue home. According to a police report, a victim from the home in the 600 block of Marion Avenue saw a red Neon pull up in front of the house. Someone inside the car then started shooting into his yard, towards the home. Police listed the names of three suspects but no arrests have been made yet. Man robbed A local man told Gaffney Police he was robbed at knifepoint last Monday afternoon near Marion Avenue and Oakland. The man said he was beaten by two men and robbed of his wallet, which contained $88. Police indicated in a report the incident still is under investigation. Gun taken The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a break-in at a Cowpens home in which a thief or thieves made off with a .25 caliber handgun and a gold chain. The break-in occurred in the 100 block of Acorn Drive, sometime between 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 and 10 a.m. on Dec. 31. Police said the front door was pried open. Theft losses are estimated at about $2,000. Safe stolen The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said a thief or thieves made off with a safe from a Cowpens Pacolet Highway home on New Year's Day. An unknown person kicked in the rear door to the residence and stole a safe which contained documents, medications and a small amount of cash. Theft losses and damage are estimated at $620. Man arrested A Laurens man was arrested by Gaffney Police on Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly took $560 in tools from the back of a vehicle at a West Floyd Baker Boulevard construction site. A witness told Gaffney Police the man dropped the tools near Sonic Drive-In when he was yelled at. James Robert Blakely, 42, of Copeland St., Laurens, subsequently was caught in the parking lot of Burger King. Construction workers were able to recover the tools. Warrants filed Gaffney Police filed the following arrest warrants recently: A warrant for Zactrick Michael Jefferies, 19, Flint Street, Gaffney, for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Police allege Jefferies committed a battery upon another person on Jan. 1 when he cut someone in the chest with a razortype blade inside a West Birney Street bar. A warrant for Jeffrey Dean Blanton, 41, Walnut Street, Gaffney, for burglary. Police allege Blanton entered a residence on Palmetto Street between Feb. 1 and Aug. 7, 2007, without consent. Shoplifters hit store Gaffney Police are on the lookout for three women who allegedly stole about $1,000 in clothing from a West Floyd Baker Boulevard store Jan. 3. According to a police report, the women placed various merchandise near the front of It's Fashions, 1625 W. Floyd Baker Blvd., while pretending to shop. While a clerk was assisting another customer, the women fled out the door with the merchandise and left in a green Pontiac. Security camera footage was to be turned over to police. Meter box damaged An Emeral Drive, Gaffney, home sustained about $1,800 in damage when a burglar tried to gain entry between Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. An unknown person kicked two doors and used some type of object in an attempt to break into the Garden Lakes Drive home. Police said a Duke power meter box was stolen. |
