Mildred G. Brevard
Talented musician and retired educator
MONCKS CORNER - Mildred Gilmore Brevard of 115 Rogers St., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, in Roper Hospital, Charleston,.

Wife of Dr. Henry W. Brevard II, she was born in Norwalk, Conn., a daughter of Mary Singleton Gilmore and William Palmer Gilmore Sr. She was a 1957 graduate of Granard High School, a 1961 graduate of South Carolina State College and received a Master's degree in Education from The Citadel in Charleston.

Mildred was an active member of The Church of the Redeemer Episcopal in Pineville, S.C., where she served in numerous capacities, including director of the Pineville Chorale.

Mildred has served as a band director, choral director, assistant principal and principal in Berkeley County Schools. After retirement, she continued to serve the students of Berkeley County as Hearing Officer. She was a jazz vocalist with Lonnie Hamilton and the Diplomats and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Maurice (Tina).

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by two children, Darryl Brevard (Veronica) of Moncks Corner and Nicole Brevard- Hines (Jesse) of Orangeburg; a sister, Shirley Gilmore Tate of Gaffney; two brothers, William P. Gilmore Jr. (Martha) of Moncks Corner and H. Singleton Gilmore of Greer; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at noon at The Church of the Redeemer Episcopal, conducted by Father Edwin Walker. The family will receive friends Thursday from 8-9 p.m. at The Gilmore Mortuary in Gaffney. Interment will be Friday in Gaffney Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Redeemer Building Fund, 2677 Hwy. 45, Pineville, S.C. 29468.
