Lamar W. Hambright Sr.

Lamar William Hambright, Sr., 78, of 4707 Mellon Ave., Oakland, Calif., widower of Ruth O. Hambright, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at his residence.

Son of the late Sumpter Hambright and the late Helen McCoy Hambright, he was a native of Cherokee

County and a graduate

of Granard

High School, where he was a football star. He was a veteran.

Surviving are two daughters, Veronica Boyd (James) and Andrea Hambright of Oakland; two sons, Lamar William Hambright Jr. and Michael Hambright of Oakland; a sister, Annie Mary Wood of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters in-law, Beatrice Hambright of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ruth N. Hambright of Gaffney; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Albert and Brown Mortuary, Oakland.

Burial, with military rites, will follow at the Military Cemetery in Sacramento, Calif.
