The Gaffney Indians passed another road test on Tuesday.

Josh Corry scored 28 points, including seven in a row, during a crucial fourth-quarter stretch to lift the Indians to a 60-55 victory over homestanding Mauldin.

Gaffney improves to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the region.

With the score tied at 41 with 5:15 left in the fourth, Corry hit a 3, a 2-point basket and two free throws to give the Indians a lead they would never relinquish.

The Indians also were clutch down the stretch at the free throw line, hitting seven of eight, including two each by Eddie Jefferies, Jazz Palmer and Corry and one by Jeff Brown. For the game, the Indians made 17 of their 27 free throws.

Gaffney coach Mark Huff was pleased with his team's offensive execution.

"Mauldin runs a 1-3-1 zone defense and we did a good job of executing against it," Huff said. "It's something you don't see that often and I'm very proud of the guys."

Huff said Jefferies was big off the bench. He finished with four points.

The Indians jumped out to a 9-2 lead. They extended their advantage to 20-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Mavericks went on a run in the second quarter to trail 33-22 at the break.

Gaffney turned the ball over eight times in the third quarter, allowing the Mavericks to close within 41-37.

Mauldin scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 41 before Corry regained the momentum for the Indians.

Johnny Woods and Brown each scored eight points for the Indians. Palmer and Robert Butler chipped in with three, while David Dewberry had two points for Gaffney.

The Indians will step out of conference on Saturday for an intracounty matchup with Blacksburg.
