Charter to hike basic cable rate
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

Charter Communications is raising its basic cable rate effective in February.

The price for basic cable in increasing by $4.44 from $14.45 to $18.99, according to a service price list.

The rate change is based on the rising cost of doing business, including items such as fuel, insurance and programming, according to a letter to Gaffney City Council from Charter Director of Governmental Relations James Corrin Jr.

There is no change in price for the digital premium networks, such as HBO/Cinemax and Starz/Encore, or the rate for Charter OnDemand movies and Charter Pay Per View.

The cost for expanded cable will decrease about $1.50 a month to $36.00.
