Gaffney thumps Lady Wildcats

No bench. No problem for the Gaffney Lady Indians.

Kierra Phillips had 21 points and Patricia Sullivan and Lacey Gardner each scored 12 to lead the Lady Indians to a 62-22 win over winless Blacksburg on Saturday.

Gaffney, which improves to 6-7 overall, led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Indians maintained that nine-point bulge at the break.

Gaffney outscored the Lady Wildcats 12-2 in the third quarter to take over control of the contest.

Breanna Watkins had a 3 to increase the Lady Indians' lead to 39-17 early in the fourth quarter.

Phillips then scored two straight baskets to push the advantage to 43-17.

Watkins' 3 with :40 left in the game provided the final margin of victory.

Watkins finished with nine points - all on 3s.

Catherine Tate scored 13 points to lead the Lady Wildcats, who fall to 0-16.

Gaffney hosts Hillcrest on Tuesday, while the Lady Wildcats will return to the court Friday against visiting Chapman.
