Knights of Columbus

to sponsor FT contest

All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2008 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 am at Limestone Central Elementary School on Pacolet Hwy. in Gaffney.

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,000 local competitions.

Barton topples

Lady Saints

It was a tale of two halves for Esty Flores, Kendra Thomas and the Barton College women's basketball team on Saturday night in its 70-58 conquest of visiting Limestone.

Flores, a 5-3 sophomore point guard, was on fire in the first half, cashing in 17 of her game-high 25 points. Thomas managed just three points in the first half, but dominated in the second 20 minutes with 18 points for a total of 21. She added 11 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in Conference Carolinas. Limestone left at 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the league.

Flores also had five steals for Barton, which led 34-22 at halftime and pushed the cushion to 54-37 midway through the second half. The Lady Bulldogs finished with a 40-35 rebounding advantage and both teams shot just 37 percent and swished five 3-pointers apiece.

Shelly Robinson paced the Lady Saints with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including a sensational 5-of-5 from 3-point land.

Limestone grapplers rally to beat Anderson

The Liimetone wrestlnig team spotted a Anderson 12-3 lead then rallied to beat the Trojans, 28-15, Friday.

The Saints finished the match with four straight victories, including wins by Joby Schreckhise, Dan Scanlan, Dave Bush and Trey Moss.

Limestone improves its record in dual meets to 10-1.

Reid scores

19 in High Point win

Former Gaffney High star Arizona Reid had 19 points and 14 rebounds to help High Point upset Winthrop 62- 61 on Saturday .

James ticketed

for speeding

LeBron James was ticketed by the State Highway Patrol for driving 101 mph on an interstate highway.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star was cited in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 71 near Medina at 2:43 a.m. on Dec. 30 - his 23rd birthday.

Cleveland attorney Colin Jennings filed a not guilty plea for James on Tuesday in Medina Municipal Court. Ahearing is scheduled for Feb. 11, the same day the Cavaliers are scheduled to play in Orlando against the Magic.

Other details about the traffic stop were not available.

An e-mail was sent to James' publicist seeking comment Sunday night. James' agent, Keith Estabrook, couldn't be reached.

Medina is about 30 miles south of Cleveland.
