City seeking to annex property
Area inlcudes Limestone-Central Elementary School
By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Staff Writer larry@gaffneyledger.com

The City of Gaffney might be growing.

Negotiations with landowners are underway to annex property near Pacolet Highway, including Limestone-Central Elementary School.

The Cherokee County School Board on Tuesday agreed to the annexation, but city administrator James Taylor said he's still working on the annexation proposal.

The school district sought to annex the school several years ago, but Taylor said the city couldn't make a deal with nearby property owners to make the school contiguous to the city.

"We now have reason to believe that's changed," he said.

The annexation would also include a proposed development with 179 patio homes and 155 apartment units on a 60-acre lot owned by Henry and Michelle Jolly on Pacolet Highway.

The Cherokee County Board of Appeals in December denied a request from developer CDS Development Co. LLC for a variance to reduce the size of the lots.
