AZ REID
Labeled with the "too short" tag coming out of high school, AZ Reid is playing big once again for High Point.

The former Gaffney High superstar, who was selected as the Big South Conference's Player of the Year last year, is the odds-on favorite to repeat the feat after posting more eye-popping numbers this season.

Despite battling taller inside players on a nightly basis, the 6-5 Reid is now sixth in the nation in scoring at 23.9 points a game and 11th in rebounding at 10.8 boards per game.

He's shooting 55 percent from the floor, including an impressive 40 percent from 3- point range.

He's making 73 percent of his free throws and handing out an average of two assists per game.

But putting up big stats is nothing new for Reid, who become High Point University's alltime leading scorer and rebounder last year.

For his career, he's averaged 16 points a game and eight rebounds. He's made 50 percent of his shots during his High Point career.

Reid came up big against rival Winthrop on Saturday, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Will those numbers catch the eye of professional scouts? According to reports, NBA scouts have watched Reid but it's unclear whether he is polished enough to warrant a draft selection. Reid is expected to receive invitations to professional summer league teams and training camps.

Reid led the Gaffney Indians to two Class 4A state championships, while earning all-state accolades.
