Ambassador Wilkins to address annual Chamber banquet

David H. Wilkins, U.S. Ambassador to Canada and a former South Carolina lawmaker, will be the guest speaker at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Banquet.

The event will be held Feb. 5 at the Broad River Electric Auditorium, 811 Hamrick St., Gaffney.

Wilkins, a Greenville High and Clemson University graduate, received his law degree from the University of South Carolina. After serving in the Army, Wilkins practiced law in Greenville for more than 30 years. He serves on the Clemson University Board of Trustees.

Wilkins became the 21st ambassador to Canada on June 29, 2005.

He is married to the former Susan Clary, a Gaffney native and Limestone College graduate. The couple has two sons.

The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce 2008 Hall of Fame Award and Duke Energy's Meritorious Citizen Award will be presented at the meeting.
