Man faces drug charges after being arrested on outstanding warrant A 27-year-old Gaffney man was charged with possession with intent to deliver suspected marijuana following his arrest on another matter, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Police said that Jeffrey Tyrone Miller, of Granite Drive, was stopped and taken into custody Friday on an outstanding warrant at North Granard and Mill Street. During a subsequent vehicle search, police claimed they found a black trash bag containing a glassine bag of suspected marijuana weighing 452 grams. Attempted break-in Someone tried to break into the office of Redwood Apartments in Gaffney last weekend but failed to gain entry, according to police. A worker at the apartments told police she found damage to a front door lock and saw signs that someone had tried to pry open the rear door as well. No entry was made and nothing appeared missing. Gaffney Police said the door and lock damage was estimated at about $275. Money stolen A Gaffney gas station reported the theft of $20 by a woman who reached through the gas station window and grabbed a money envelope Sunday afternoon. According to a police report, the unknown woman initially took an unknown amount of cash when she grabbed the envelope from the window at Murphy USA on West Floyd Baker Boulevard. A worker demanded the return of the envelope at which point, police said, the woman handed back some of the money. A check of register receipts showed the station was $20 short. Car damaged A Gaffney man's car sustained more than $500 in damage and theft losses on Sunday when someone kicked in his windshield and threw a rock through a window. Police reported that a CD player was stolen from the car, which was parked in the 100 block of Granite Drive between 1 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Hit and run Gaffney Police are investigating a hit and run accident that caused an estimated $2,000 in damage. According to a police report, a Gaffney woman's 2001 Ford Mustang was struck in the front left side and its rear bumper while it was parked in the 400 block of North Limestone Street. The incident happened last weekend. Laptop stolen A display at a West Floyd Baker Boulevard business is short one laptop computer after three alleged shoplifters targeted the store Wednesday afternoon. An employee at Colortyme told police that three people - a woman and two men - all came into the store at the same time Wednesday at about 4:35 p.m. The woman and one of the men went to the washer and dryer section and sought assistance from a clerk while the third man went towards the computer section. All three people then suddenly left the store together and employees noticed a Compaq laptop computer, valued at $1,369, was missing from the store display. Security camera footage of theft has been given to police. The three people fled in an older model green Nissan Altima. Tools/copper stolen The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of more than $1,000 in tools, copper and other equipment from a 2nd Avenue location in Gaffney. The thefts occurred between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15. Among the items taken were drop cords, copper tubing, a space heater, various tools and $40 in cash. Compressor stolen A burglar stole an air compressor and Craftsman tools from a Possum Trot Road, Blacksburg, building after prying off a door lock, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. The thefts occurred Tuesday afternoon. Police said the stolen items were valued at about $2,200. Food stamp forgery Gaffney Police received a complaint this week that a Chesnee woman's name was forged on an application for food stamps at the Department of Social Services on North Limestone Street. The forgery occurred sometime between Nov. 19, 2007 and Jan. 15, police reported. The woman whose name was used on the application became aware of it after receiving a call from the agency. She told police the food stamp application contained a maiden name she no longer uses. - Tim Gulla |
