Gaffney native replaces original MLK speaker South Carolina State Representative Fletcher Smith will be the new featured speaker at Limestone College's Martin Luther King Celebration on Tuesday, January 22 at 6:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Smith, who was raised in Gaffney, represents Greenville County's District 23 in the State House of Representatives for which he has served since 1997. He graduated from Wofford College in 1974 and the University of South Carolina Law School in 1978. He served on the Greenville County Council from 1989- 1996. Rep. Smith agreed to be a last-minute replacement for the original speaker, author Sonny DuBose, who is unable to attend due to health problems. He will speak on the same topic, "Brown vs. the Board of Education, Where Do Go From Here?" Limestone and the MLK Community Diversity Celebration Committee will also host a luncheon on Monday, January 21 in the Stephenson Banquet Room beginning at 12 noon. Tickets for the luncheon are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the Limestone College switchboard in the Curtis Administration Building or at the Bethel Senior Day Care Center (489-7552). |
