James E. Upchurch
U.S. Army veteran of WWII
James Everette Upchurch, 86, of 228 Monroe St., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Gaffney, he was the son the late Albert Sidney Upchurch and Effie Wright Upchurch. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country in World War II. He was a retired cook and member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by a nephew, Don Mace, and wife, Brenda, of Kings Mountain, N.C., and two nieces, Patricia Worchester and husband, Wayne, also of Kings Mountain, and Joel Watkins of San Diego, Calif.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Upchurch was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Onada Upchurch; a brother, Eugene Upchurch; and two sisters, Corrie Mace and Ella Perry.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rich Lancaster. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Blakely Funeral Home.

Family members are at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kirby Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 512 Chandler Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
