Saints fall short in upset bid over Mount Olive The Limestone Saints couldn't handle Mount Olive's Kendrick Easley. Easley scored 34 points and Brandon Streeter added 14 to lead Mount Olive to a 90-84 victory over the homestanding Saints Saturday night. Andre Coleman led Limestone with 24 points and 7 assists. Marques Williams added 21 points and Shawn Creal scored 11 for the Saints, who fall to 0-7 in Conference Carolinas play (2-10 overall). The Trojans climb to 7-1 in the league (11-3 overall). Mount Olive jumped to a 16-point lead at the start of the game, but Limestone fought back to trail 49-40 at the break. The Saints stayed close by making 9 of their 13 3s in the first half. The Trojans opened an 11-point lead to start the second half, but Limestone went on a spurt to lead 73-71 on a 3-pointer by Kenny White with six minutes left to play. But Streeter tied the game with a layup and Josh Brown made two free throws to give the Trojans the lead. Limestone tied the score on two more occasions but never managed to take the lead. The Saints held their own against one of the conference's leading rebounding teams, outrebounding the Trojans, 28-27. Both teams were hot from the 3- point line. The Saints hit 58 percent of their 3s (14-24), while Mount Olive was 8 of 15. Limestone travels to St. Andrews today. |
