Rev. Charles Sanders
U.S. Navy veteran of WWII; U.S. Army veteran of Korea
The Rev. Charles Edward Sanders, 85, of Midwest City, Okla., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008.
Charles was born Jan. 19, 1922, in Gaffney, the son of Ira and Kate Sanders. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served his country in Africa, Europe and the Pacific. In 1948, Charles joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict.
Rev. Sanders was ordained and formerly served as a pastor in South Carolina. He was married to Jerry Upton who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Chris and Mary, and two brothers, Buddy and Foy.
Charles is survived by a daughter and her husband, Lynn and Jim Gallegly, of Oklahoma City and a son and his wife, Charles B. and Chris Sanders of Niceville, Fla.; a sister Jean Moore of Gaffney; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Jan 21, at Sooner Baptist Church, Midwest City, with military honors to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens.
